Simplex and Duplex roller chains with a 3/8" pitch are used primarily in timing drives, oil pump drives and drives for auxiliary units, especially for automotive engines. The chain is acoustically optimised with gap damping between roller and bush plus excellent wear resistance for high-speed applications. Owing to its smaller pitch, a roller chain with an 8 mm pitch cuts the weight and consequently reduces the centrifugal forces and impact speed.  It is therefore ideal for downsizing to timing drives with moderate loads.

In order to handle higher power transmission requirements such as for vehicle transmission systems for example, transmission chains in the form of inverted tooth chains (also known as silent chains) are used.

Triplex Bush or Roller chains for engine timing drives (cam drives, oil pumps, water pumps). Variations are to fit most automotive applications, these chains from the Italian based Regina have had constant research and development making these chains some of the most innovative and high quality chains in the market. Triplex chain is available as 3/8" (5.72 mm) Pitch x Width – Endless. Three product ranges available include:
 1. (STD) ISO/ ANSI norms, 2. (REINF H) Reinforced heavy duty series with thicker side plates 3. (REINF S) Reinforced s-type.
*  European Series, manufactured to ISO 606 norms, mainly used in Europe for power transmissions - available as 1, 2, 3 and 4 strands of rollers.
** American Series, manufactured to  American standards ANSI B29.1 which is included in the ISO/R 606. Similar to the European Series but offer higher fatique resistance due to their design charecteristics. On the other hand they have a lower breaking load than the European chains.

A wide set of tests aimed at assessing mechanical performances, such as life endurance, materials composition, chemical compatibility, etc. is performed to validate any new product prior to its launch on the market.
